Bought the book...

So I just purchased the book that I was talking about earlier today: Not on Our Watch: The Mission to End Genocide in Darfur and Beyond.

I've just gotten started and the book is great.

At the beginning, there is a letter of introduction submitted by Senators Obama and Brownback. I also stumbled upon an editorial cartoon (see image to the upper left) that illustrates a segment of their letter...

"Darfur is home to the first genocide of the twenty-first century. After the genocide in Rwanda, in which 800,000 people were killed, the world said we would not tolerate this ever again. Amazingly, the words 'Never Again' have continued to be uttered in the months--and now years--that have passed since 2003, when the killing started in the remote western region of Sudan. We continue to hear people say this genocide cannot continue, but it continues every day. Up to 400,000 have been killed and millions displaced."

Another eye-opening quote in the book is that of Jewish Professor, Elie Wiesel, who says: "Remember: silence helps the killer, never its victims."
